Samsung triples India handset output; invests $70 mn
September 15th, 2011 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) Korean mobile handsets manufacturer Samsung Electronics Thursday said it has tripled the manufacturing capacity of its mobile manufacturing unit at Noida with an investment of over $70 million.
“India is one of the top three mobile markets for Samsung in the world and we stand committed to this market and our Indian consumers,” said J.S. Shin, president and chief executive officer, Samsung South West Asia.
“Given the strong potential of this market, we are working on consistently, strengthening our presence in the country through a very innovative mobile portfolio as well as enhanced manufacturing and research and development operations,” he added.
Samsung has also recruited another 1,500 employees at the mobile manufacturing unit. With the manufacturing capacity increase at the mobile plant, the company’s Noida manufacturing complex now provides employment to 4,000 employees.
Noida is Samsung’s sixth overseas manufacturing unit in the world where the company is manufacturing multimedia, dual SIM and touchcreen models. The company’s second manufacturing complex in the country is located at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.
