Sainik school to come up in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, April 8 (IANS) The ministry of defence plans to set up a Sainik school in Kadpa district of Andhra Pradesh. Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju told a news conference here Tuesday that the Sainik school would come up in the district if the state government provides the necessary infrastructure.

Raju, who is also the chairman of the Board of Governors of Sainik schools Society, said the state would have to bear all infrastructure development expenses for the proposed second Sainik school in the state.

Kadpa is the home district of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and his government has already expressed its willingness to allot land and provide other infrastructure facilities for the school.

Raju pointed out that Rs.20 million have been provided to each Sainik school in the union budget for improving the infrastructure.

There are already 22 Sainik schools in the country run by the ministry of defence. Every state has at least one such school, which prepares the students to serve in the defence forces.
