Sadhvi Pragya’s aide moves court against ‘harassment’
January 12th, 2011 - 10:27 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) Ananth Brahmachari, an associate of Sadhvi Pragya Singh who is a key suspect in the 2008 Malegaon bombing, approached the Delhi High Court Wednesday alleging that he was “harassed” by the National Investigating Agency (NIA).Brahmachari attempted suicide in a south Delhi guest house last week.
On Jan 5, Brahmachari was found unconscious at the flat in Jangpura by his family. He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he got emergency medical care for poisoning.
Filing a petition through his lawyer Jitesh Vikram Srivastava, he blamed the NIA of violating his fundamental rights and said: “The NIA is not following the rules and regulations framed by the Supreme Court for the purpose of interrogation.”
According to Srivastava, Brahamchari went to the NIA for interrogation along with his two lawyers but they were not allowed to go inside where the questioning was going on.
The petitioner also demanded that he should not be questioned in Delhi. The petition is likely to be heard soon.
Pragya Singh is said to be the brain behind the Sep 29, 2008 blast in Malegaon in Maharashtra that killed eight people. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police has accused her of forming a group to avenge the earlier Mumbai train bombings.
