New Delhi, June 22 (IANS) Indian teenager Rutuja Bhosle continued her impressive run at the $10,000 ITF tournament as she entered the singles quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over Austria’s Patricia Haas at the DLTA complex here Wednesday.

The 15-year-old, who was rewarded with a wildcard this time around after her good performance in last week’s ITF, served solid and hit fluent strokes to outlast the big hitting Haas in a nearly two-hour-long battle.

The bespectacled and lanky Rutuja, after taking the first set, was quick to go up 4-2 in the second, only to drop her serve immediately. The set went to the tie-breaker where the Indian kept her nerves to win the set and match.

Rutuja next plays eighth-seeded compatriot Prerna Bhambri, who stroked her way to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jung-Yoon Shin of South Korea.

Rishika Sunkara did well to rally for a set all but lost steam in the decider to lose 6-4, 5-7, 0-6 to Belgian qualifier Desiree Bastianon.

Fifth seed Stephanie Scimone of Italy swept aside India’s Nehel Sahni 6-1, 6-0 to set up a quarterfinal clash with Ratnika Batra. Batra, who had defeated Scimone in the first round last week, got the better of compatriot Nidhi Chilumula 6-3, 6-3.

Top seed Keren Sholomo of Israel shrugged off a slow start against South Korean Ju-Eun Kim before advancing 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Shlomo now plays last week’s winner China’s Zhaoxuan Yang, who dismissed India’s Garima Vatwani 6-2, 6-0.
