Russian couple booked for diamond theft
March 4th, 2010 - 9:29 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Panaji, March 4 (IANS) A Russian couple have been arrested for allegedly trying to stealing a diamond ring from a jewellery store, police said Thursday.
According to police, Domkiv Roman, 35, and Kuta Melachevko, 32, both residents of Moscow, tried to steal the ring from a jewellery store in Calangute, 15 km from here.
“They tried to steal a diamond ring worth Rs.7,500 by distracting the store owner. We have arrested them both,” Inspector Nolasco Raposo told IANS, adding that the ring has been recovered from the duo.
Raposo further said that Domkiv has been booked on the charges of assault last year.
“On enquiry, we found out that his visa had also expired. Domkiv came to Goa in 2008,” the officer said.
