Russian arrested in Goa for overstaying

Panaji, Aug 3 (IANS) A Russian national was arrested in Goa for staying beyond the period of his visa, police said Friday.

Nikolai Sokolov was held in the coastal village of Calangute, 20 km from here, police said.

A police spokesperson said that Sokolov had been overstaying in India for a month and had been dodging police during the time.

The state government is in the process of contacting Russian consular officials, police said.
