Russia to spend $170 mn on modernising space centre
September 7th, 2011 - 11:11 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, Sep 7 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Moscow will spend over five billion rubles ($170 million) on the development and expansion of the Plesetsk space centre in northern Russia this year, Space Forces spokesman Col. Alexei Zolotukhin said Wednesday.
This includes reconstruction of a motorway, construction of barracks and a cafeteria. The centre’s energy supply system will also be modernized, he said.
Plesetsk is used especially for military satellites being put into polar orbit since the area of the launch pad, where debris might fall, is virtually uninhabited.
