RTI activist’s murder: AIIMS forensic experts to visit Bhopal

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) With no headway made in the five-month investigation into the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood, a team of forensic experts from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is likely to visit Bhopal to gather and examine clues in the case.
“T.D. Dogra, head of the Forensic Sciences Department of AIIMS will leave tomorrow or in a day to two to Bhopal. The forensic expert and his team are likely to visit the spot where the activist was shot dead by unknown assailants,” a hospital source told IANS.
Masood, an RTI and green activist, was killed outside her home in Bhopal Aug 16.
“The team from AIIMS is called to gather and examine evidences gathered by local and central forensic department officials,” the source said.
Masood was shot in the neck while she was starting her car outside her home in the posh Koh-e-Fiza locality in Bhopal. She was leaving to lead local protests in support of Anna Hazare’s fast against corruption and for a strong Lokpal bill.
What made the case even more murky was that several high profile names cropped up during the probe, including those of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, police officers and even the mining mafia.
Activists claimed that Masood was targeted as she was not only a green crusader but had also filed several RTI applications in different departments of the Madhya Pradesh government.
Initially being probed by Madhya Pradesh Police, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Sep 5. However, the premier agency has yet to make any headway.
The investigating agency had announced a reward of Rs.5 lakh in September for anyone providing information about the murder.
