New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) Clueless about the murder of a close aide of a slain Ujjain professor’s son, Delhi Police Saturday said they will reward Rs.50,000 to anyone who informs them about the culprits behind Parminder Singh’s killing.
Parminder Singh, who worked as accountant with Himanshu Sabharwal’s advertising firm in Gurgaon, was stabbed to death late Thursday. His body was found in the Maurice Nagar area near Khalsa College in the north Delhi University campus by a passerby.
“Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal has announced a reward of Rs.50,000 in the case and has instructed the Special Cell to coordinate with North District police in investigating the murder of Parminder Singh,” Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.
Delhi Police Saturday again questioned Himanshu about the murder.
“Himanshu was called for questioning Saturday for the second time,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Preet Hooda told IANS, adding that no arrests have been made in the case as of now.
Hooda refused to divulge anything further. “We are investigating the case and cannot divulge anything beyond this right now.”
Police have ruled out robbery as the motive behind Parminder Singh’s murder as they found his motorcycle near his body. However, his mobile phone was not recovered.
According to police, Singh, Himanshu and their friend Pooja were planning a candle vigil seeking justice for Professor H.S. Sabharwal’s muder. They pasted posters for the campaign in Delhi University between 8-11 p.m. Thursday to gather people for the candlelight vigil Sunday at India Gate.
Professor Sabharwal died after being beaten up by students in Ujjain’s Madhav College August 2006. However, a Maharashtra court July 13 had acquitted six activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) — the students wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), charged with beating the professor to death — due to lack of evidence.
According to police, Himanshu said they had been putting up posters at various places till around 11 p.m., when they left and that was the last time they saw Singh.
There were also reports that Himanshu had named members of the ABVP as being behind the murder. The ABVP has vehemently denied the allegations.
The candlelight vigil seeking justice for Prof Sabharwal will be held at India Gate Sunday between 4.30 and 6.30 p.m.
