Bhubaneswar, April 7 (IANS) In two separate incidents Monday, criminals targeted a trader and a bank and stole Rs.4.4 million in Orissa’s Cuttack town, the police said. “The first incident took place around 12 p.m. and second in the evening,” Cuttack Additional Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi told IANS.

Some unidentified men cheated the businessman and ran away with the Rs.4 million he had withdrawn from HDFC Bank.

In the second incident, at least four armed youth rushed to a State Bank of India branch at Gopinathpur near Cuttack, 26 km from here, and looted at least Rs.400,000 after threatening the bank staff, Priyadarshi said.

A bank official was injured after the robbers opened fire, he said. After looting the bank, the robbers escaped with the money on four motorcycles, he said.

The robbers told the bank employees that they were leaving behind a bomb, which turned out to be a firecracker.
