Unidentified assailants waylaid a cash van of the Indian Overseas Bank in the industrial city of Ludhiana, 110 km from here, and took away Rs.2 million (Rs.20 lakh).
They also fired at the security guard accompanying the van and injured him. He was admitted to a local hospital where doctors said he was out of danger.

In Amritsar, 250 km from here, unidentified youths on a motorcycle took away a bag containing Rs.1.2 million (Rs.12 lakh) from the staff of a private security agency.
The incident took place on a day when the Punjab Police was carrying out a full security drill ahead of President Pratibha Patil’s scheduled visit to the city Oct 6.
