New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS) A tribunal Tuesday awarded a compensation of Rs.2.23 crore to two brothers - the sole survivors of a 2004 road accident in which their parents and sister were killed - contending they had suffered due to the death of their businessman father.
Motor Accident Claims Tribunal chief Swarana. K. Sharma directed the Oriental Insurance Company Ltd to pay the amount after holding the driver of the truck responsible for the accident at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

“Had the father (who was in early 50s) of the petitioners (Sandeep and Sumit) been alive, they would have established themselves in the business and would have got financial and other support to establish themselves in the business,” the tribunal said.

“The guidance of the father in carrying on business to establish the child is of great importance and till the child is established, he remains dependent on his father and mother as the case may be,” it added.

Satyavir Singh Tomar, the proprietor of Delhi-based Tomar Construction Company, his mother, his wife and his daughter and the driver of his car were killed when a speeding truck rammed into their vehicle Dec 30, 2004. Brothers Sandeep and Sumit, however, survived.
