Row over liquor deaths in West Bengal

Kolkata, Jan 27 (IANS) Violence erupted in a West Bengal town Tuesday following reports that six people had died after consuming illicit liquor, but police denied anyone had fallen victim to the moonshine.Residents of Maheshtala town in South 24 Parganas ransacked illegal liquor shops and destroyed the hooch stored there as news of the alleged deaths spread.

The Trinamool Congress alleged that six people died after drinking the liquor. The police quickly denied this, insisting that only two people had died and that too due to Hepatitis B.
