Mumbai, Jan 17 (IANS) The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Tuesday sealed a room in south-central Mumbai where the planters of the bombs that exploded here July 13 last year allegedly stayed till last month.

While ATS officials refused to come on record, sources said the sleuths also seized incriminating material from the room in Byculla.

According to neighbours, a team of around 15-20 policemen searched the house and sealed it before they left. The neighbours also said that only two people stayed in the tenement and never interacted with anyone, mostly staying indoors.

According to sources, the room is located on the third floor of Habib Building in a busy area of Byculla and was rented out to two people named Tabrez and Waqar by the owner’s wife.

The name plate outside the room read Md. Istiyaque A. Salam Qureshi.

The place was also allegedly frequented by Yasin Bhatkal, alias Shahrukh, the mastermind who orchestrated the July 13, 2011, blasts.

A real estate broker, Sultan Khan, had helped them get the room, sources said. Khan also stays on the second floor of the same building.

Both the house-owner and the agent have been interrogated by the police, sources added.

Three blasts at close intervals July 13 last year shook the country’ diamond and gold hubs - Opera House and Zaveri Bazar - and a busy commercial area of Dadar west in Mumbai, killing at least 27 people and leaving around 125 injured.
