Rookie of 2007, Ishant back in Australia with excitement

Canberra, Dec 16 (IANS) India fast bowler Ishant Sharma said the fiercely fought 2007-08 series against Australia helped him emerge as a better bowler in international cricket.

The 23-year-old tall, lanky fast bowler is excited to be back in Australia, shouldering more responsibilities this time.

Ishant fondly remembers the controversial series in 2007 when he tamed then Australian captain Ricky Ponting. He claimed Ponting in both innings of India’s third Test win in Perth in 2008 that ended Ponting’s bid for a 17th straight win.

“I went on the tour as a raw bowler and returned a finished product. People came to know me after that tour, they talked about my bowling and it had to be a positive experience for me. I am really excited to go back there again,” Ishant was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

Ishant, who has claimed Ponting six times, is eagerly waiting to attack the former skipper, who is struggling with form.

“I have been waiting for this tour for a long time. There are a lot of expectations from me because I had done a good job on my last tour there. I am charged up now. I have different plans for each and every batsman,” he said.
