Jaipur, Sep 25 (IANS) Five youths who were looking for jobs were killed when they were hit by an overbridge while travelling atop a train in Rajasthan’s Ajmer town Sunday, police said.

The accident also left four youths injured.

All the victims were travelling to various centres to appear for exams for the posts of district revenue officers, but due to overcrowding, could not find a place inside the coach.

The incident occurred on the Gwalior-Udaipur Intercity Express near Ajmer, some 130 km from state capital Jaipur.

“The train had left the Ajmer railway Station around 1.30 a.m. Sunday. Some aspirants climbed on the rooftop. At least nine of them were hit by Gadi Malyan overbrige, some five km from the railway station,” said a police officer.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh, 21, Kamlesh, 19, Shiv Prasad, 22, and Parmeshwar, 20, and Anil, 22.

The railway police in Ajmer were informed by their counterparts in Bhilwara around 4 a.m.

The bodies were lying on the rooftop until the train reached Bhilwara, some 130 km from Ajmer, the officer added.

A similar incident was reported in Ajmer in January when three youth were killed and four others injured when they fell off the roof of a train after hitting an overbridge.
