Robinho sold by Real Madrid to Manchester CitySeptember 2nd, 2008 - 3:08 pm ICT by IANS
Madrid, Sep 2 (DPA) Brazilian winger Robinho has been sold by Real Madrid to Manchester City. According to the digital versions of sports dailies, Real agreed to sell Robinho to City for $58.71 million, just before the close of the summer transfer window at midnight Monday.
The deal has still not been officially confirmed by either club.
Robinho appeared poised to join Chelsea - who have been pursuing him all summer - but it seems that Real have preferred to sell him to a club which will not be a rival in the Champions League.
Robinho, who joined Real in 2005 from Santos, made it clear Sunday morning that he was desperate to leave Madrid.
Coach Bernd Schuster did not take him up to La Coruna for Real’s opening league game, a 2-1 defeat.
Real have apparently made a last-minute bid for Euro 2008 top scorer David Villa, only to again be turned down by Valencia.
