Robbers loot Rs.61 lakh, shoot at two bank employees
June 11th, 2009 - 6:06 pm ICT by IANSAhmedabad, June 11 (IANS) In a daring daylight robbery here Thursday, four armed men shot and injured two bank employees who were transporting money to the bank’s headquarters before fleeing with Rs.61 lakh in cash, police said.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. Thursday when the two employees Rajendrabhai Patel and Parin Shah were taking the cash in two large bags in a car from the bank’s branch in Parimal Garden to the bank’s headquarters at Kalupur.
“The car was intercepted by four armed men near the bank premises at Parimal Garden and when the officials resisted they were fired upon from close range. They sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital for emergency treatment,” a police officer said.
The robbers fled the scene with the cash in a waiting car, police said.
“A passerby informed officials of the bank about the incident and soon after the police was informed. A hunt had been launched to nab the robbers with intense checking of vehicles ordered at all state border points,” the police officer added.
