Robbers loot Rs.50 lakh from Delhi house
October 18th, 2009 - 4:54 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS) Unidentified men looted jewellery and cash worth Rs.50 lakh (Rs.5 million) from a house in the national capital on Diwali night Saturday, police said Sunday.
Businessman Praveen Kumar’s Laxmi Nagar residence in east Delhi was burgled when the family was not at home.
“We were out the whole Saturday celebrating Diwali at our relatives’ place in the same area. In the evening, I asked one of my relatives to go and light diyas at my house. She was shocked as the locks of the main door were broken and the house was ransacked,” said Kumar.
Kumar said that robbers have taken Rs.39 lakh (Rs.3.9 million) in cash and jewellery worth Rs.11 lakh (Rs.1.1 million).
“I got the money after selling some property in the capital and was planning to buy a shop,” he said.
