Robbers loot Rs.1 mn from Haryana bank

Panchkula (Haryana), Feb 12 (IANS) Two motor-cycle riding armed robbers Thursday looted Rs.1 million from a nationalised bank branch in a busy market place in this Haryana town, the police said.
According to the police, two men riding a blue motor-cycle, which had no number plate, entered the office of the State Bank of Patiala branch in Sector 15 of this town, around 10 km from Chandigarh.

The robbers were carrying a country-made pistol. One of them overpowered a bank guard while the other lifted the cash from a cashier’s counter. The bank guard was unarmed, the police said.

“We have arrested two suspects. However, we have to ascertain their identity and our investigations are still on,” Panchkula Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwar told IANS.

The staff members were inside the bank, which is located in a busy market place frequented by thousands of visitors everyday.
