New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) In a broad daylight robbery, four youths Monday barged into a northwest Delhi house and held the family captive at gunpoint before escaping with cash of Rs.30,000 and gold jewellery worth Rs.1 million. The police said the youths barged into the Maharana Pratap Enclave II house of Sampat Lal, a city businessman, claiming to be courier delivery boys. Lal was not at home when the incident took place.
One youth first pressed the doorbell of the house on the pretext of delivering a courier and then all of them immediately held captive Sampat Lal’s wife Kaushalya Devi, 50, and son Rahul, 24.
They forcibly entered the house and drew out country-made pistols. They said they have received Rs.300,000 contract money to kill them.
The assailants then asked the family to hand over all the cash and valuables at home, the police said.
Before fleeing with Rs.30,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs.1 million, the robbers tied Rahul and his mother and locked them inside the bathroom.
Rahul somehow managed to untie himself and called the police.
“The robbers were not wearing any mask and appeared to be in their early-20s,” Rahul told the police.
The police said a case has been registered at the Saraswati Vihar police station but no arrest could be made till late Monday.
