New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday said its reports on alleged sexual assaults on women in Bhatta-Parsaul village and the rape and killing of a girl in a police station in Uttar Pradesh were still in process.
Refuting media reports which claimed that an NHRC team had submitted its reports on both the cases to its chairperson K.G. Balakrishnan, a statement by the commission said that the media reports were mere “conjectures”.
“The report by NHRC investigation team on the alleged violence at Bhatta-Parsaul, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh has not been received by the chairperson or the commission as it is still not ready,” the statement said.
Four people, including two policemen, were killed in an exchange of gunfire between farmers protesting against land acquisition and the police in Bhatta-Parsaul village last month.
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the police sexually assaulted women in the village during the stir.
“Similarly, the NHRC investigation team’s report on Lakhimpur-Kheri incident on the issue of alleged rape and murder of a girl in a police station premises is still in the process of finalisation,” it added.
A minor girl’s body was found hanging from a tree June 10 inside the police station in the Lakhimpur-Kheri district. It is alleged that the girl was raped and killed.
