The students were shortlisted from 32 universities and colleges in 19 states.
The interns will be provided with information regarding the international conventions on human rights to which India is a signatory. Besides, they will do research studies on different aspects of human rights and be taken on field visits.
Welcoming the students, NHRC joint secretary J.S. Kochher said: “They will be sensitised on various human rights issues like rights of the disabled, mentally challenged persons, women, children, senior citizens and those belonging to the SC/STs (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribals).”
He expressed hope that the student interns will make the best use of the training programme by utilising the facilities available in the commission.
