Residents block traffic after man dies in police custody

Bhopal, Aug 6 (IANS) Residents of a locality in the Madhya Pradesh capital blocked traffic for hours Wednesday after a man, detained under National Security Act (NSA), died in police custody. Nawab was arrested under the NSA July 29 and was admitted to Hamidia Hospital here Monday when he complained of chest pain. He died Wednesday.

The people of the Karond locality allege that Nawab died due to police beating.But the police maintain that the deceased was a drug addict and died due to related complications.

Confirming the death, Bhopal Superintendant of Police Joydeep Prasad said: “The death has been caused due to illness.”
