american-centuryIt was all about the records at the American Century Championship that included record breaking attendance and record scoring by Grant Fuhr, a retired NHL goalie.

Although not officially announced, still Saturday’s second round of the American Century Championship is believed to be the most attended day in the 20-year history of the event, according to Phil Weidinger, the media director of the tournament. According to the sources, the event was attended by a crowd of 31,500 breaking last year’s record total of 31,226.

It was not only the most attended American Century Championship ever but also marked record scoring in the history of the game. Grant Fuhr eclipsed the single round scoring total with an 18 hole total of 32 to move into the first spot tie along with the seven time champion Rick Rhoden, the former pitcher of the Dodgers and Yankees. Fuhr’s round of 5-under 67 included two eagles which are worth of six point a piece according to the modified version of the Stableford scoring format.

“It’s fun to be hanging around again,” exclaimed Fuhr, as the day was entirely taken over by him. “Obviously you want to have a good chance to win. But to get the chance to play with Rick again, I enjoy that. Obviously Rick is as good as there is. It’s fun to learn from them. It’s fun to be competitive,” added Fuhr as he expressed his gratitude towards the seven time champion, Rick Rhoden.

Fuhr also broke the second round scoring record of 30 shared by Rhoden and Jack Wagner.
