Ready to examine US evidence on alleged assassination plot: Iran
October 18th, 2011 - 12:52 am ICT by IANSTehran, Oct 17 (IANS) Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said Monday that the country is ready to examine evidence on Tehran’s alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US.
Salehi said that Iran has asked the United States to submit any information related to their claims of the plot, adding that Iran is ready to examine the evidence, even if fabricated, “seriously and patiently,” Xinhua reported quoting the official IRNA news agency.
The US Justice Department alleged last Tuesday that Iran is involved in a plot to kill Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel Al- Jubeir.
Salehi also urged the Saudi authorities to exercise discretion about the recent anti-Iran allegation by the United States and not to be entrapped by the publicity stunt, according to the local satellite Press TV.
The Saudi authorities are “well aware” that the U.S. allegation against the Islamic Republic seeks to cause a rift between the countries in the region, said Salehi.
Meanwhile, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Monday that “despite growing military threats and political pressure, Iran will never retreat one step and will firmly resist such extortionist acts,” the Press TV reported.
hamenei made the remarks when addressing a crowd in Iran’s Kurdish city of Paveh in the western province of Kermanshah, referring to the US claims.
He said Sunday that Iran will confront any US act against the country under the pretext of an alleged assassination plot.
US officials said that the country was working with its partners to impose comprehensive sanctions on Iran, including sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran.
