Rao calls on Iran foreign minister
July 7th, 2011 - 12:10 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, who is on a two-day visit to Tehran for the ninth round of foreign office consultations, called on Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, an official statement said Wednesday.
Nirupama Rao is accompanied on the visit by Y.K. Sinha, Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (PAI), during the July 5-7 visit to Tehran.
The statement said the foreign secretary’s discussions covered issues pertaining to bilateral, regional and international developments.
During the visit, both sides exchanged the Instrument of Ratification for the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners signed in July 2010 and operationalised the agreement.
Views were exchanged on combating global terrorism, energy security, the north-south transport corridor, developments in Afghanistan and regional security and stability.
It was agreed that the next meeting of the India-Iran Joint Commission will be held in Tehran at an early date.
The statement said that in her meeting with Salehi, the foreign secretary reiterated the invitation for him to visit India.
