Ranji Trophy: Tamil Nadu beat Mumbai to set up final date with Rajasthan

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Friday entered the Ranji Trophy final by virtue of their big first-innings lead against Mumbai and they now meet Rajasthan at home in Chennai Jan 19-23.

Tamil Nadu, who had a 202-run first-innings lead, batted a second time and declared at 331 for eight, leaving Mumbai no time to chase any target. Mumbai ended the fourth and final day at 88 for three. Tamil Nadu made 359 in the first innings and bowled out the hosts for 157.

Tamil Nadu’s opener Murali Vijay resumed the day with an overnight score of 103 went on to score 142 before being caught by Hiken Shah on the bowling of Balwinder Sandhu, who ended with match figures of 10 for 162.

Ramaswammy Prasanna forged a 52-run partnership with Vijay give Mumbai an insurmountable target of 534. The hosts were in trouble from the outset with opener Kaustubh Pawar back in the hut without troubling the scorers.

Result: Match drawn (Tamil Nadu won on 1st innings lead)
