New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday greeted the nation on the festival of Raksha Bandhan and said it fosters “community bonding” and also highlights the “importance of women in Indian society”.
In his message, the prime minister said “the unique festival of Raksha Bandhan fosters community bonding irrespective of caste or creed and highlights the importance of women in Indian society”.
He said the country “needs to renew its commitment to a just society free of all prejudice”.
“May the festival bring happiness and peace to all,” he added.
Raksha Bandhan, being celebrated Saturday, is a reaffirmation of the sibling bond where sisters tie a thread, or rakhi, on their brothers.
