New Delhi, March 23 (IANS) Rajya Sabha Wednesday paid tributes to martyred Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
“Their sacrifice has immortalized them,” Chairman Hamid Ansari said, observing the day when the three were hanged in Lahore prison by the British rulers in 1931.
“Let us pledge to uphold the cherished values for which they gave their life,” Ansari said.
The upper house then observed a minute’s silence to pay homage to the matrtyrs.
Soon after, Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan said the day is also the birth anniversary of socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia.
“Today is the last day of the birth centenary of Ram Manohar Lohia which was being marked from 2010 to 2011. We urge the government to establish an educational institution in his name and give him the Bharat Ratna,” he said raising the issue in zero hour.
