Rains in store in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, June 4 (IANS) The hills of Himachal Pradesh will get relief from the scorching heat as the Met office Monday forecast rains and thundershowers soon, even as the state recorded a high temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius in Una.

“A fresh western disturbance is likely to hit the western Himalayas Tuesday. It will remain active in the region till June 7,” an official of the meteorological office told IANS.

Meanwhile, the hill state continued to experience hot weather with the day temperature crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark in some areas.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a maximum temperature of 38.7 degrees Celsius while Dharamsala in Kangra district, which saw mild rain in the afternoon, was 3.6 notches above average at 35.4 degrees Celsius.

State capital Shimla was at 29 degrees Celsius, 4.5 notches above average.

The met department said there could be light to moderate rain or thundershowers in popular tourist resorts like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Kasauli, Manali, Palampur, Chamba and Dalhousie.
