Hyderabad, Dec 31 (IANS) For the second consecutive day Saturday, rains lashed parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh under the impact of cyclone Thane which hit the Tamil Nadu coast near Cuddalore Friday.
Though the cyclone spared the Andhra coast and weakened into a low pressure area, the rains under its impact damaged crops in some districts.
Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam and Guntur districts were receiving rains since midnight, officials said.
Officials said the rains damaged paddy, groundnut and mirch (chili) crops and salt farms, adding to the woes of farmers.
Salt farms over a large area in Bhavanapadu of Srikakulam district were damaged by the rains. The paddy crops were also inundated in the district.
In Prakasam district, there were reports of damage to chili and groundnut crops.
The downpour inundated roads and affected the normal life in many parts of Visakhapatnam.
Parts of Rayalaseema region were also receiving rains, the skies were cloudy in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, considerably bringing down the day temperature.
The Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre has forecast rains in coastal Andhra for next 48 hours under the impact of a low pressure area over north Kerala and its neighbourhood.
