Rains bring down mercury in Chandigarh
June 17th, 2011 - 1:02 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 17 (IANS) Early morning showers in Chandigarh and surrounding areas heralded a cool Friday with the minimum temperature recorded at 21 degrees Celsius, a good five degrees below average.
The Met office has predicted more rains for the day.
“We had moderate rainfall in Chandigarh and in the neighbouring towns of Punjab and Haryana this morning. We are likely to have light to moderate rainfall in the coming hours,” said a Met official.
“These are pre-monsoon showers and a sign for the arrival of good monsoon in this region,” he added.
Met officials have also predicted thunderstorms and strong winds to prevail in this region.
“Strong winds, with a speed exceeding 45 km per hour, could occur at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab. This year, June is cooler as compared to past few years in this part of the country,” he said.
Chandigarh Thursday recorded the maximum temperature at 33 degrees Celsius.
