Rain, snow bring down temperatures in Kashmir Valley
April 11th, 2011 - 3:01 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, April 11 (IANS) Kashmiris are back to tweeds and woollens. With rain and snow lashing the Valley Monday and the weather office forecasting further wet spells, the temperatures have dipped.
“A western disturbance is active over the Valley and rain and snow are expected at many places,” said an official of the local weather office here.
The minimum temperature in summer capital Srinagar was 7.1 degree Celsius. In north Kashmir’s Gulmarg ski resort, the minimum fell to minus 1.5, while in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam hill station, it was 3 degrees, the weather office said.
Reports of fresh snowfall have come from the Zojilla Pass connecting the Valley with the cold desert Ladakh region.
Zojilla Pass remains closed during the winter months, cutting off the road link between the Ladakh region and the rest of the country.
Rain in the plains and snowfall in the mountains have brought down the minimum temperatures here.
Locals have again started wearing tweeds and woollens which they had given up after the temperature started improving with the beginning of the spring season.
