Rain but no snow in Himachal on New Year’s Day
January 1st, 2012 - 2:06 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Jan 1 (IANS) The hill stations of Himachal Pradesh experienced rain but no snowfall on the first day of 2012, a weather official said here Sunday. Temperatures rose marginally across the state due to cloudy conditions, except in Shimla.
“There was mild rainfall in some parts of the state early Sunday,” an official at the meteorological office told IANS.
Shimla, which saw 0.6 mm of rain, saw a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius — a fall from Saturday’s 4.2 degrees.
Tourist resort Manali saw a rise in night temperature. It recorded a low of 2 degrees, a rise from Saturday’s minus 2.2 degrees.
The night temperature in Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was minus 5.1 degrees and in Kalpa in Kinnaur district minus 1.7 degrees. They Saturday recorded minus 7 degrees and minus 4 degrees.
The weather office said there are chances of snow after Tuesday.
“The western disturbances are approaching the region Jan 3. If these remain active for a few days, snow would cover most of the tourist spots,” it said.
