Rail traffic disrupted as goods train derails
October 4th, 2011 - 9:12 pm ICT by IANSKanpur, Oct 4 (IANS) Rail traffic along the busy Delhi-Howrah route was Tuesday disrupted following derailment of a goods train in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said. No casualty was reported.
“Though only one wagon of the goods train jumped the tracks, the derailment not only damaged rail tracks for several metres but also brought down the overhead cables and stalled the movement of several long-distance trains,” Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector P.N. Mishra told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
According to the official, the derailment took place near the Amiapur railway station between Kanpur and Etawah railway stations.
“Senior railway officials have reached the accident site, and the operation to restore the route is underway,” added Mishra.
The train carrying coal was heading to Delhi from Jharkhand.
