Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 22 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Friday promised to create modern sports facilities in his Amethi Lok Sabha constituency. His remarks came after witnessing the finals of an inter-state kabaddi competition in Gauriganj village on the second day of his visit to the constituency. He also utilised the opportunity to take tips on the game from the players.

At a meeting with office-bearers of the Congress’ rural unit, Gandhi once again blamed the state government for its lethargic approach towards implementing central government schemes.

However, what came as a surprise for the Congress workers was Gandhi’s decision to let senior party functionaries attend the meeting.

“Generally, aged and veteran Congress loyalists are not given a chance to attend such meetings, but this time we were surprised by his move,” said Noor Mohammad, the block head of Tiloi.

On Saturday, before winding up his visit, Gandhi will meet the office-bearers of the Congress’ central monitoring and vigilance committee of Sultanpur district, party spokesman A.P Singh told IANS.
