Rahul Gandhi to inaugurate memorial to Sikh guru

New Delhi, July 28 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate a unique memorial to the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, on the Delhi-Haryana border Friday. The memorial, comprising 40 plaques inscribed with the tenets of Sikhism, is touted to be another landmark of the national capital.
“The government has invited Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to inaugurate the memorial which was built in the memory of ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur,” a Delhi government official Thursday told IANS.
Located on the Singhu border of Delhi and Haryana, the foundation stone was laid by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in 2003.
The memorial has been constructed at a cost of Rs.25 crore. The place is thronged by people from Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The official said that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit along with other cabinet members will be present there.
“This is a beautiful structure and will be another marvellous landmark in Delhi’s heritage. The memorial features 40 plaques inscribed with the fundamental tenets of Sikhism,” added the official.
“Built with stainless steel and stone, the memorial also has an amphitheater. Its 24 metric tonnex pylon can be viewed from a long distance,” said the official.
