Rahul Gandhi meets Bhupen Hazarika’s son in Guwahati

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Wednesday met Tej, Bhupen Hazarika’s son, in Guwahati to offer condolences on the legendary singer’s death, party sources said here.
Bhupen Hazarika was cremated Wednesday morning in Guwahati.
Tej, a publisher in New York, arrived in India Tuesday for his father’s funeral.
Gandhi, who is visiting northeastern states, flew down to Guwahati to meet the family members of Bhupen Hazarika. He met Tej and other family members at their ancestral house in Guwahati and spoke to them for an hour.
According to Congress sources, Tej said that his father met Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi’s father and former prime minister, during the time his song “Ganga behti hai kyun” had become famous and the two had a photo together. The photo is in Tej’s house in New York.
Gandhi arrived in Nagaland Wednesday where is is to inaugurate Nagaland University’s auditorium in Lumami in Zunheboto district. He is also to meet potential Indian Youth Congress (IYC) candidates.
Bhupen Hazarika died at age 85 in Mumbai on Saturday.
