Jammu, Sep 27 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi arrived here Tuesday to a rousing reception on the second and final leg of his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Hundreds of Congress and Youth Congress workers lined up on both sides of the road — right from the airport to the guest house in the city.
They shouted slogans like “Rahul Gandhi Zandabad” (Long live Rahul Gandhi) and waved the party’s flags. The Gandhi scion waved at the crowds, acknowledging their greetings.
He is scheduled to attend two functions here. He is to interact with youths and also the newly-elected panches and sarpanches in the local body elections held this year.
“Essentially, he is here to boost the Youth Congress membership, but we expect him to give us an overall direction for the party in Jammu and Kashmir,” said state Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla, who is looking after the arrangements for Gandhi’s rallies.
Both the areas where Rahul Gandhi is to attend functions fall in Bhalla’s Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency.
Rahul started his two-day visit to the state Monday by first visiting Kargil in cold desert area of Ladakh and then Srinagar.
The hallmark of his visit has been his interaction with Kashmir University students when he identified himself with their “pain and suffering”.
