Abhinav BindraChennai, Feb 23 (IANS) AIADMK chief J. Jayalalitha Monday congratulated A.R Rahman and Resul Pookutty for winning Oscars for music and sound mixing, saying the duo were role models for youth.
“I would like to congratulate composer A. R. Rahman, who has won two Oscars - for best original song and best original score, and Resul Pookutty, who shares the Oscar for best sound mixing, for having kept the Indian tri-colour flying high at the Academy Awards this year,” she said in her message.

She noted individual Indians have repeatedly proved that they are amongst the best in the world in different fields, citing the achievements of world chess champion Viswanathan Anand and Olympic gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra.

“The honours won by Rahman and Pookutty are of the same calibre. Not only should we salute their excellence but the new generation should also look up to them as positive role models worth emulating,” the AIADMK chief said.

It is indeed a matter of pride for India and Indians that the film Slumdog Millionaire, which centres around India, has dominated the 81st Academy Awards circuit bagging as many as eight Oscars, she said, and also congratulated filmmaker Danny Boyle and his team for their resounding success.
