Radcliffe’s musical receives mixed response
March 29th, 2011 - 3:46 pm ICT by IANSLondon, March 29 (IANS) British actor Daniel Radcliffe’s musical debut “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” received mixed reviews.
The New York Times’ chief theatre critic Ben Brantley gives Radcliffe six out of 10 but added that the actor “conscientiously hits his choreographic marks, speaks his lines quickly and distinctly (with a convincing American accent) and often sings on key.”
The New York Daily News reviewer wrote that Radcliffe “shows off a pleasant singing voice” but isn’t “animated enough” and “doesn’t quite succeed.”
But Elisabeth Vincentelli, who writes in the New York Post, found the 21-year-old actor adorable, reports the dailystar.co.uk.
The Broadway musical, based on the bestselling novel by Shepherd Mead, is about one man’s ambitions to climb the corporate ladder using a self-help book.
