Vancouver, July 15 (IANS) An elderly Indo-Canadian couple was killed in a road accident in the city of Surrey near here. Sixty-two-year Dilbagh Singh and wife Bakhshish Kaur, 60, were killed when their BMW car, driven by their daughter, was hit from behind by a racing car. The couple, who were traveling with their two daughters, died on the spot.
Both the sisters are in hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. Rupi Badh, who was at the wheel, has suffered multiple fractures. The elder daughter Varinder Badh broke her jaw and pelvis.
The family members were driving back home late Saturday night after attending a ceremony following Rupi Badh’s engagement when their car was hit from behind by a racing Acura. Rupi Badh lost control of the vehicle, hitting a telephone poll.
The deceased couple came to Canada from Punjab years ago. Many elderly Indo-Canadians have been killed by accidents involving racing cars in Surrey.
Surrey, one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, has over 100,000 people of Indian origin in its 400,000-plus population.
