R-Day celebrated across Tamil Nadu
January 26th, 2010 - 10:28 am ICT by IANSChennai, Jan 26 (IANS) The 61st Republic Day was celebrated across Tamil Nadu with patriotic fervour, unfurling of national flag and march past Tuesday.
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala unfurled the tricolour at the famed Marina Beach at 8 a.m. and took the salute of the three armed forces and other security agencies.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, his son, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, ministers, officials and large number of commoners watched the colourful and majestic parade and the various tableaux of different state government agencies that showcased their achievements.
Karunanidhi gave away Anna gallantry awards.
Across the state, district collectors unfurled the national flag and took the salute.
