Punjab youths highjack bus, arrested
August 23rd, 2011 - 5:57 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Aug 23 (IANS) Nine youths from Punjab on a holiday in Himachal Pradesh were Tuesday arrested for intimidating locals and hijacking a tourist bus of Gujarat, police said. However, no one was injured.
“Before hijacking the bus, the accused had a scuffle with the locals. Initial investigations suggest that the accused hijacked the bus on the pretext of escaping from the spot,” a police officer told IANS.
More than 22 tourists, including 10 children, were aboard the bus when it was highjacked from Khajjiar, 475 km from here. The accused later took it to Chamba district, he said.
Confirming the incident, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said: “Police have arrested the accused and are investigating the matter.”
