Punjab to set up first police university

Phillaur (Punjab), March 21 (IANS) Punjab will set up the first full-fledged police university in the country. This was announced Friday by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here after he reviewed the annual passing-out parade at the Punjab Police Academy located here, 20 km from Ludhiana.

The police university would be set up in the campus of the academy itself and would be named after Punjab’s famous warrior king, Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

“The modalities for setting up the university would be worked out within the next two months,” Badal announced.

The proposed university will deal with courses and issues like 21st century policing and having better police-public interface.
