Punjab man kills pregnant wife, attempts suicide after row

Mohali, June 18 (IANS) Angry after an altercation with his four-month pregnant wife, a man in this Punjab city Thursday allegedly stabbed the woman to death before attempting suicide, police said.
Bablu, 25, and his 24-year-old wife Shobha had a heated argument Wednesday evening over some family issue, a police officer said.

They again indulged in some arguments Thursday and in the fury, Bablu repeatedly stabbed the abdomen and throat of his wife with a gardening scissor, the officer said.

Bablu pierced the same scissor in his stomach in an attempt to commit suicide.

“It is a case of family dispute. The couple was not enjoying a good relation and frequently indulged in arguments. Bablu has been admitted to the Civil Hospital here in serious condition,” district police chief Jatinder Singh Aulakh told IANS.

Mohali town in Punjab is around 10 km from the state capital Chandigarh.

Sunita, an aunt of the deceased, who was the first to discover Shobha’s body, said: “I saw both Bablu and Shobha lying in a pool of blood when I visited their house today. I was shocked and immediately called the police.”
