Punjab cops to go to Britain to probe Rulda murder
February 26th, 2011 - 1:52 pm ICT by IANSPatiala, Feb 26 (IANS) A special team of Punjab Police will leave for Britain next month to gather evidence in the murder case of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat president Rulda Singh.Rulda Singh was seriously injured when unidentified attackers opened fire at him outside his house-cum-shop in this Punjab town July 28, 2009. He died in hospital after struggling for life for 18 days.
During the police inquiry, it was found that four British nationals of Punjab origin had plotted the murder. They were arrested by the police in Britain but were released in January this year.
“Punjab Police and the home department have given us the green signal to go to the UK to probe this case. A three-member team will go there next week,” a senior police officer said.
Punjab Police had also arrested two other accused, Darshan Singh and Jagmohan Singh, for the case. A special team of West Midlands Police, Britain, had come here in December last year and questioned them.
Police say the murder was the handiwork of members of the banned terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
“BKI activists in the UK were unhappy with Rulda Singh as they believed that he was diminishing the ideology of Sikh religion,” a police officer said.
