Punjab assembly employee booked for embezzlement of funds

Chandigarh, Feb 18 (IANS) Police Wednesday registered a case against an official of the Punjab assembly who is under suspension on charges of embezzling government funds.
“We have received a complaint from the secretary of the assembly against Anil Vij, a research officer. We have registered a case against him,” Har Sahai Sharma, investigating officer of the case, told IANS Wednesday.

According to the complaint, Vig had not deposited the balance amount of Rs.434,080 to the concerned authority out of Rs.1 million sanctioned for a 12-member study tour of Pakistan in 2005. Only Rs.565,920 was utilised.

“Vij is presently under suspension. Nobody knows his whereabouts,” said Sharma.
