New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) Second-seed Karim Darwish of Egypt setup a quarterfinal clash with compatriot Mohamed El Shorbagy in the Punj Lloyd PSA Squash Masters here Wednesday.

World No.3 Gregory Gaultier of France and the Netherland’s Laurens Jan Anjema also sailed into the last-eight after winning their pre-quarterfinal matches at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.

Another Egyptian Omar Mossad, however, tasted defeat at the hands of Anjema, who won 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5 while Gaultier got the better of Malaysia’s Mohamed Azlan Iskander 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.

Darwish, a former no.1, dispatched England’s Tom Richards 11-3, 11-4, 11-6 in 37 minutes. Richards struggled against Darwish’s deft drop shots.

World no. 8 Shorbagy defeated Spain’s Borja Golan 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7 in the first match of the day.

Shorbagy has never won against Darwish in their four previous meeting but said he was confifent of winning his quarter-final tie. Shorbagy had lost to Egyptian great Amr Shabana in the pre-quarterfinals of the last two editions.

“I am very keen to cross the last eight this time. It will be tough against Darwish as well but I am ready for the challenge,” said Shorbagy.

Darwish also hoped that Shorbagy would come hard at him.

“The quarterfinal will be tough. He is hungry to win against the top five players. I have been watching him play ever since he was a kid. I recently beat him in Kuwait and I expect him to come hard at me this time,” said Darwish.

India’s Saurav Ghosal will face fifth seed Peter Barker of England in another round of 16 match Thursday. Top seed Ramy Ashour of Egypt and title favourite James Willstrop of England will be also seen in action.
